Oral Surgery to Improve Your Oral and Overall Health

You can count on Dr. Matthew Torres and the team at family-owned Carson Valley Dental Arts to perform successful oral surgery. The goal of oral surgery is to improve the function, health and appearance of your smile and the surrounding structures such as your jaw.

In many cases, we strive to provide the most conservative treatment possible. Oral surgery may be necessary, however, to correct certain conditions and improve your oral and overall health.

Oral surgery may include:

  • Tooth extraction (for teeth that are decayed, damaged or infected to the point that an effective restoration is impossible)
  • Wisdom teeth removal (for wisdom teeth that are impacted or have grown in at an incorrect angle)
  • Jaw surgery (to treat a TMJ disorder, to correct uneven jaw growth, or to improve the fit of dentures)
  • Bone grafts (to increase bone density and/or to improve the chances for a successful dental implant)
  • Complicated implant surgeries (to install multiple teeth implants Minden, NV depends on)
  • Sinus augmentation

My experience was absolutely wonderful. I was terrified and scared and they were comforting, sweet, compassionate and patient. The dentist is very comforting, compassionate and genuine, not to mention a total doll. The group of people that work there are wonderful people and also very professional.

Effective Wisdom Teeth Removal

If your wisdom teeth have not grown in properly or are impacted, we’re here to help with our quality wisdom teeth removal services and IV sedation if you need it.

The third molars, which are commonly called the wisdom teeth, are typically the last teeth to come in. Because they are the last to erupt, there is often not enough room for the wisdom teeth to grow in as they should.

When there is not sufficient space for the wisdom teeth, they may become impacted (unable to fully break through the gum tissues and jawbone) or they may grow in at an incorrect angle.

Wisdom teeth that do not erupt as they should can lead to several dental problems, such as:

  • Disturbing the natural tooth alignment or orthodontic treatment
  • Damage to the neighboring teeth
  • Tooth decay
  • Infection and inflammation in the gums and other tissues
  • The formation of cysts
  • Damage to the jawbone Wisdom teeth

Dr. Matthew Torres may recommend wisdom teeth removal to avoid these serious complications and to keep your smile healthy.

Stay Relaxed and Calm With Sedation Dentistry

If you suffer from dental anxiety, if you have had negative experiences at the dentist in the past or if you simply feel nervous about your treatment, sedation dentistry from Carson Valley Dental Arts can help you feel more at ease.

Dr. Matthew Torres and his team understand that you may experience fear and anxiety about visiting the dentist. Sedation dentistry is a wonderful choice if you feel anxious or nervous about your dental treatment. Contact us today to schedule an appointment.

Your Sedation Options

There are several types of sedation dentistry available based on your individual needs and preferences:

  • Nitrous oxide (laughing gas): A sedative gas that is mixed with oxygen. You simply inhale the gas during your treatment to help you feel more relaxed. Nitrous oxide is a mild form of sedation that wears off within just a few minutes after we stop the flow of gas. Nitrous oxide is available within our office.
  • Oral sedation: Involves taking an oral medication before your treatment. By the time of your appointment, you will feel calm and at ease. Oral sedation is available within our office.
  • IV sedation: Involves administering the medication intravenously (through the veins). This type of sedation enables our dentist to provide the sedation quickly, and we can also easily control the level of sedation to ensure that you stay comfortable.IV sedation is a form of conscious sedation, meaning that it will not make you unconscious, but you may feel so relaxed that you fall asleep during your treatment. You may also not remember all of the details of your visit. Although sedation dentistry is not available within our office, we work closely with other specialists to facilitate your care.
